You know the feeling you get after buying a new car, you learn of a feature it has, and you say to yourself, “wow, that’s pretty cool.” One Sunday morning, while on my way to church, I activated my turn signal, as I was preparing to exit, in doing so, my navigation activated also, on the screen it read, “Warning Message, Narrow Lanes.” At the time, I had not been driving the vehicle very long, so this discovery impressed me all the more. I know, it’s just a car, but I believe something to be gained from the warning message. My initial thought, was lane management, now that I’ve been made aware, Can I manage my driving, in the narrowed lanes? Of course I can, being the master driver that I am, just kidding, sometimes my ego gets the best of me, forgive me, lol. But seriously, this warning no doubt, designed to keep me safe, as I drive on the narrow road. As I thought about the narrow road, I was reminded of a scripture in Matthew 7:14, it reads “Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” This text is put in comparison to the previous text, which speaks of a wide gate, a broad way, that leads to destruction, and many go after it. The following verse is a warning 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves” Hear is a warning message, “Beware!” Yes, it’s true, false prophets are real, and they know how to dress, they can appear to be real, but inwardly they are like ravening wolves, the word ravening means, someone who is ferociously hungry, like a wild animal. They are hungry to steal you away from the Shepherd, the narrow way. Have you heard this phrase “So-in-So, has lost their way.” It speaks to a person, choosing a way different from what they know to be the right way. Often it comes from a new ideology they have been exposed to, so they go that way. In ignorance they dismiss the warning, and follow the way that is broad or wide. They are enticed because it’s appealing. Many people are traveling the broad way, the way that is wide. It doesn’t take much discipline to go that way. In fact, you don’t have to focus on being obedient, you don’t have to subject yourself to God or anyone for that matter. And that’s the way people like it, many go that way, despite the warning. But the narrow road, this is the road, where one lives in obedience to God, where discipline and careful attention must be practiced. As believers we have this internal navigation system, the Holy Spirit, it’s ever present, to warn us, to keep us mindful to manage the narrow road. There are few who find it, I don’t know about you, but I want to be among them, will you join me?
